DEPARTMENT OF SURGICAL ONCOLOGY
UROLOGY UNIT
Introduction
Urology unit of BPKMCH is one of the strong units of surgical oncology dealing with wide range of genitourinary
malignancies. We use cut ng edge technology and modern technical innovat ons to deal with Urological
cancers like Urinary bladder cancers, prostate cancers, penile and test cular cancers, retroperitoneal tumors
and pelvic tumors requiring complex reconstruct on and other miscellaneous cancers. We provide a wide
array of non-surgical and surgical treatment ranging from act ve surveillance, percutaneous, endoscopic,
laparoscopic and open surgery.
Services
OPD: All working Day
Minor Operat on: Sunday /Tuesday/Thursday
Operat on day: Monday/Wednesday/ Friday
Endoscopy/ Cystoscopy: All working Day
Surgical III ward is alloted for Urology
Admissions and Operations:
BPKMCH urology provides a best urologic pat ent care to more than 3500 pat ents each year. The
mult disciplinary approach to the challenging urological disorders in coordinat on of other departments
provide excellent pat ent centered approach. We follow the ERAS protocol to make a faster surgical recovery.
Those pat ents who need surgery undergo the mandatory pre-anesthet c checkups. Minor procedures are
performed on day case basis. For major surgeries pat ents are usually admited a day before surgery. Afer
surgery pat ents are managed in post-operat ve ward. We cont nually strive to improve quality of care for our
pat ents and to offer the greatest efficacy with fewer complicat ons.

Academic Activities
BPKMCH urology is commited to various educat onal programs and are act vely part cipat ng in hospital and
academic act vit es. Residents from various medical college of Nepal are sent here at regular intervals for their
training in subspecialt es such as Uro-oncology, reconstruct ve urology. Dr Gyan Pokharel is on his one-year
fellowship for Uro-oncology at Tata Medical Center - Cancer Hospital & Research Center, Kolkata, India. Dr
Binod Babu ghart is pursuing his MCh in Urology at NAMS, Nepal.

Dr Nirmal lamichhane presented on “Act ve surveillance for low risk prostate cancer” at regular CUE
