Department of Pathology has been an integral part of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, since its
inaugurat on as a Day Care Center on 11 October 1995. Our moto is to provide cut ng edge diagnost c
pathology services while achieving qualitat ve outcomes in pathology research and educat on.
Pathology services were started with rout ne laboratory tests, Fine Needle Aspirat on Cytology and Bone
marrow examinat on. Afer indoor services were started on 20th July 1999, pathology services were also
expanded. Now we have our own separate two-storied building allocated for Department of Pathology.
Responsibilit es of the department are immense and paramount to the services of the cancer pat ent in
rendering a final diagnosis, assist in evaluat on of prognost c factors, facilitate support ve services during
treatment and help in assessment of recurrences or persistence of disease. The scope and volume of the
clinical services provided by the Pathology Department have cont nued to grow steadily in the past years.
We are very proud to be associated with longstanding excellence in pat ent care, educat on and research; and
cont nue to build on these rich tradit ons into the future.
Department of Pathology serves as a core facility for the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital and has different
units allocated for different invest gat on modalit es. Our department has been pioneer in Nepal to start Flow
cytometry, Immunohistochemistry and Cytogenet c studies, which have been regularly done in our Inst tute.
